Week of 9/19

AIM: This week students will be able to identify the 5 Themes of Geography as well as list and describe the 5 Characteristics required to form a civilization.

Assignments:

        Monday - Students will read Chapter 1, Section 3 "What is a Civilization" and answer questions 1 & 3 in the Section Assessment.
        Tuesday - Students will begin to study for their Chapter 1 test on Thursday
        Wednesday - Study for tomorrow's test on Chapter 1.

Week of 9/26

AIM: Students will be able to identify the first River Valley Civilizations and their locations. They will be able to identify certain characteristics of each civilization and why they all excelled.

Assignments:
     
         Monday - Students will read Chapter 2, Section 2, "Pyramids on the Nile" and answer section assessment questions 1 & 3.
         Tuesday - Students are to study for their Quiz on Ancient Egypt
         Wednesday - Students will read Chapter 2, Section 3, "Indus Valley" and answer questions 1 & 3 of the Section Assessment

Week of 10/3

AIM: Students will be able to identify key characteristics of Ancient Egypt, Indus Valley, and Ancient China. They will also be able to identify the rivers that allowed these civilizations to thrive, along with their geography.

Assignments:
            Monday - Read Chapter 2, Section 3(Indus Valley) and answer questions 1 & 3.
            Tuesday - Continue to work on their "Build A Civilization" projects.
            Wednesday - Read Chapter 2, Section 4(Ancient Chinese Civilization) and answer questions 1 & 3.

Week of 10/17

AIM: Students will be able to identify the areas where some of the first key religions started, such as Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism. Students will also be able to identify the key differences in each of these religions.

Assignments:
            Monday - Students are to study for their test on Chapter 2, Ancient River Valley Civilizations.
            Tuesday - Read Chapter 3, Section 2 and answer questions 1 & 3 of the Section Assessment.

AIM: Students will be able to understand the differences between how Buddhism and Hinduism began, along with their founders. Students will be able to identify the origins of Judaism, where it began, and its major differences from Hinduism and Buddhism.

Week of 10/31

AIM: Students will be able to identify the geography of Ancient Greece and how the mountains and seas shaped Greeks culture and politics. Students will be able to identify the major differences between Greek city-states, in particular philosophy in Athens and military in Sparta.

Assignments:
          Tuesday - Read Chapter 5, Section 2 and answer questions 1 & 3 of the Section Assessment.
          Wednesday -  Study key terms of Sections 1 & 2 of Chapter 5 for tomorrow's vocabulary quiz.
          Thursday - Read Chapter 5, Section 3 and answer questions 1 & 3 of the Section Assessment

World History Extra Credit!!

If students bring in a box of tissues, dry erase markers, or hand sanitizer, they will receive five points on a quiz or test grade for the marking period. Materials must be brought in by Friday!

AIM: Students will be able to identify the lasting effects the Peloponnesian Wars had on Athens' economy and culture. Students will also be able to understand the new empire Alexander the Great created.

AIM: Students will be able to identify the effects the Germanic invasions had on western Roman Empire, summarize the rise of Franksih kingdom and the rise and fall of Charlemagne's empire. Students will also be able to summarize the practice of feudalism and chivalry; as well as to describe the Church's structure, influence and power.

AIM: Students will be able to describe technology of role of warrior in feudal Europe, to summarize the roles and status of medieval women. The students will also be able to explain relationship between the Church and the German Empire and to summarize the conflicts between the Church and Frederick I.

Assignments:
             Monday -
Read Chapter 13, Section 3 and answer questions 1 & 3 of Section Assessment.
             Tuesday - Complete the worksheet on "The Age of Chivalry"
             Wednesday - Read Chapter 13, Section 4 and  answer questions 1 & 3 of Section Assessment.

AIM: Students will be able to identify the constant shift of women's roles in feudal Europe and how the Church viewed them. Students will also be able to explain the relationship between Church & state early in the Middle Ages along with the power the Church was able to hold over Europe early in the Middle Ages.

              Monday - Complete the worksheet that was handed out last week. Tomorrow is the last day it will be accepted.
              Tuesday - Print our review sheet for Wednesday's test review.

AIM: Students will be able to Church reforms that began in the 1000s, along with the causes and effects of the Crusades. Students will also be able to describe the medieval advances in agriculture and to identify the reasons for expansion of trade and finance in the Middle Ages.

AIM: Students will be able to explain how England's government took the first steps towards democracy, as well as describing the contributions of France's Capetian rulers. Students will also be able to identify the problems faced by the Church during the 1300s and early 1400s, as well as the effect the bubonic plague had on Europe.

ANNOUNCEMENTS!!!

THE WORLD HISTORY CLASS FIELD TRIP WILL BE TAKING PLACE NEXT THURSDAY MARCH 15. THERE ARE STILL A NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT HANDED IN THEIR PERMISSION SLIPS AND PAYMENT. THE ABSOLUTE FINAL DAY TO HAND THESE IN IS THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7. PLEASE MAKE SURE EVERYONE HANDS THESE PAPERS IN ASAP!!! THANK YOU!

New World History Extra Credit!!!!

So some of you have been asking for Extra Credit to help improve your grades. So I have decided to help you out and chose a number of Extra Credit opportunities for you. There will be 3 options you may chose from, which are listed below. If you choose to do one of the options, you can earn up to 15 points on your lowest quiz or test grade for the 3rd Marking Period!!! All extra credit must be submitted to me by Wednesday March 14th. There will be no exceptions.


Option #1

Since we are currently studying the Renaissance and all of its intelligent and inspirational artists, you may choose a work of art by one of these artists, such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and recreate it. You may choose from any work of art, paintings, sculptures, etc. The more detailed your recreation is, the more points you will be able to earn.


Option #2

Create a poster board of information about either the Renaissance or the Middle Ages. Be sure to include pictures, quotes, & detailed information for either of the time periods.


Option #3

·      You will need to choose some one, thing, group of things, or idea we have discussed (or will discuss) in our book

·      Research your choice and write a 5 paragraph essay on it

·      Your paper should include

                      Why you chose what/who you did

                      When your topic was born (or formed/created, etc…),

                      What they did that was so important (Why are they in our book? Why are we learning about them?),

                      A brief summary of their main contributions to History

                     A picture (or two or three)

·      It should be typed and spellchecked

·      It should be in YOUR words, not the website’s or book’s words

AIM:  Students will be able to identify the values and ideas prized during the Renaissance, along with artistic breakthrough and achievements of Renaissance artists. Students will also be able to trace the impact of the Renaissance on German and Flemish painters and profile key Northern Renaissance writers.

Assignments:
          Monday -
Answer questions 1 & 3 of the Section Assessment for both Sections 1 & 2 of Chapter 17(pages 422 & 427).
          Tuesday - Study for Wednesday's test on Sections 1 & 2 of Chapter 17. Also, any Extra Credit must be submitted by Wednesday 3/14.

AIM: Students will be able to identify and analyze religious issues that sparked the Reformation, along with Martin Luther's role in the religious movement to reform the Catholic Church. Students will also be able to explain John Calvin's Protestant teachings and their spread throughout northern and western Europe, as well as trace the reforms within the Catholic Church.

         Monday - Write the Vocabulary and definitions for all Vocab. words in Chapter 17
         Tuesday - Be prepared for Chapter 17 Vocab quiz on Wednesday

Week of 3/26

AIM: Students will be able to describe Spanish rule under Philip II, while also being able to explain the weaknesses in the Spanish Empire. Students will also be able to explain the religious and political conflicts in France under Louis XIV's policies.

Assignments:
 
        Tuesday - Read Chapter 21, Section 1. Expect a quiz or written assignment dealing with the reading.
        Wednesday - Complete the worksheet on Section 1 of the Chapter 21.
        Thursday - Read Chapter 21, Section 3 and answer question 3 of the Section Assessment.
        Friday - Study the vocabulary for Chapter 21 for a Quiz on Monday.

Week of 4/2  

AIM: Students will be able to characterize the style of the French royal court, while also identifying the causes and effects of French wars under Louis XIV.

Assignments:

       Monday - The Vocabulary quiz for today has been pushed back to tomorrow. Study for Chapter 21 Vocab. quiz
       Tuesday - Read Chapter 21, Section 3 and be prepared for short quiz on Wednesday.
       Wednesday - ENJOY YOUR VACATION & HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY EASTER!!

AIM: Welcome Back!! This week students will be able to explain the growth of central monarchs in European kingdoms, while identifying the conflicts between Prussia & Austria. Students will also be able to explain how Ivan III and later Russian rulers began to build a stronger Russian state, as well as the conflicts that took place between English rulers and Parliament.

Assignments:
 
       Monday - Read Chapter 21, Section 3 and answer question 3 of the Section Assessment.

Week of 4/23

AIM: The students will  be  able to  identify the three estates of  the Old Regime, along with summarizing the factors that led up to the French  Revolution.Students  will also be  able to explain the provisions  of the Declaration of  the Rights of Man, along with the events of the Reign of Terror.

Assignments:

        Monday - Print out Review Sheet for Wednesday's test on  Absolute Monarchs.
        Tuesday - Study for tomorrow's test.
        Wednesday - Read Chapter 23, Section 1, Answer question 3 of Section Assessment
        Thursday - Continue working on group projects, due Monday
        Friday - Copy the vocab for all of Chapter 23, possible quiz on Monday. Finish group projects, which are due on Monday!!
